Arthesis by Eliane Radigue

Eliane Radigue’s Arthesis (25’40’’) was created with a Moog modular system and recorded on magnetic tape. It premiered on May 1st, 1973 at the Theatre Vanguard in Los Angeles. Eliane Radigue studied musique concrète techniques under the direction of Pierre Schaeffer and Pierre Henry. From 1970, she was associated with the ARP 2500 Synthesizer and tape. Her extremely sober, almost ascetic concerts, are made of a continuous, ever-changing yet extremely slow stream of sound, whose transformation occurs within the sonic material itself.

Radigue said about Arthesis: ‘Shuffles from the depths of the ages, from a secret and fierce embrace an indistinguishable clarity that seeks to emerge, traces its fragile advent when everything falls asleep.’ The interpretation of the piece is diffused by François Bonnet.
