Silence x Sonic Acts concert at Oude Kerk on 22 February

Published on Feb 05, 2019

Sonic Acts is pleased to announce an extra morning concert in the Silence series at Oude Kerk on Friday 22 February. From 08:00 to 09:00, Sonic Acts pass-holders can experience an hour of contemplative music inspired by The Instrument of Troubled Dreams, featuring jazz musician Oene van Geel, bass clarinetist Gareth Davis and Jacob Lekkerkerker on the mellotron.

Designed by Janet Cardiff and George Bures Miller, The Instrument of Troubled Dreams is a site-specific installation that consists of a mellotron and a surround sound system of 28 speakers. Each of the instrument’s 72 keys have been programmed to play a different sound effect, vocal track or musical fragment; many of these sounds were recorded in and around Oude Kerk. When played, The Instrument of Troubled Dreams creates a cinematic soundscape and transforms the spatial experience of Amsterdam’s oldest building.

During the festival weekend (21 – 24 February), Sonic Acts pass-holders and visitors of HEREAFTER – Exhibition in Three Acts at Arti et Amicitiae can see the Oude Kerk exhibit for half price when presenting their wristband or Arti ticket at the entrance.

Reservations for the Sonic Acts x Silence concert will be available online soon.
